Rotlicht Festival Catalogue (2021)
ROTLICHT is an international festival for contemporary analog photography, which will take place in Vienna for the first time this autumn. It is run by the team of the association ZIGUTAMVE PHOTOGRAPHY with the aim of repositioning the medium of analog photography in the contemporary field. Contemporary photography with its vast variety of technical possibilities has prompted us to question its origins and has awakened the desire to present the craft of analog photography in a new way.
ROTLICHT opens Vienna as an innovative space for a new discourse on analog photography. The focus is on theory, art and practice and the festival becomes an international hub for knowledge transfer, exhibition and dialogue. The ROTLICHT festival exhibition is intended to be both the culmination and the meeting point of this interactive program. An international open call preceded the event. A top-class jury of independent experts in the field of analog photography selected the artists.
The digital development of photography has expanded and enriched the analog craft. The artistic com communication and the technical combination of both media forms make it almost impossible to draw a clear line between digital and analog in some work. Photographic hybrid processes became characteristic for our genre.
Thus, ROTLICHT integrates the digital age into its foundation of analog photography and titles the first festival edition with the focus HYBRID 21
