It all starts with a correspondence relationship that I established with a man deprived of liberty. In our letters, he shared his daily life in prison and I, told about my life on the outskirts of Mexico City. Both of us, in our own ways, were excluded by society: he, as a prisoner confined within the walls, and I, as a re-sident on the margins of a sprawling metropolis. As our exchange progressed, feelings of affection arose that were able to fill a gray reality with color.
Through photographs intervened with the »film soup« technique, I show with altered and artificial colors the places and events described in the letters; transforming these landscapes into visual metaphors that reveal the capacity to feel and resist the adversities imposed by confinement and urban marginality.
